Midwest Energy Codes Status Report
February 2, 2013 – February 19, 2013
The following is a brief rundown of building energy codes activity in the Midwest/Plains states.
Building Energy Benchmarking, Rating and Disclosure Activity:
The City of Minneapolis finalized passage of an ordinance to require disclosure of commercial building energy consumption data. This ordinance is the first of its kind in the Midwest region and will be implemented gradually. In 2013 all city-owned buildings will report energy usage on buildings over 25,000 square feet, and by 2014 data will be available for all city buildings. Private commercial buildings over 100,000 square feet must report energy consumption data in 2014, and in 2015 buildings over 50,000 square feet must report.
