Energy Efficiency Programs

Bringing Strategic Programs to Market

When MEEA first started, several state agencies approached them with limited budgets and the desire to make a big impact in the market by creating an energy efficiency rebate and distribution program around ENERGY STARŽ compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). CFLs were targeted due to the low cost of entry by both program sponsors and their customers. Through its strategic network and implementation resources, MEEA facilitated a program that helped aggregate several small program budgets into $340,000 throughout the Midwest to increase the use of energy efficient light bulbs. Since 2001, MEEA's program, Change A Light, Change The World, has increased in size and number of sponsors. The total impact through the 2006 campaign includes rebating more than 2.5 million light bulbs, bringing together 20 utilities, partners and state energy offices to cooperate on this program and saving almost 982 million kWh over the life of the CFLs.

One of the greatest benefits MEEA brings to the market is our collaborative network and program implementation resources. MEEA has grown from facilitating one program to 13 programs for consumers, businesses and government in a few short years. From increasing market adoption of energy efficient light bulbs to training businesses and builders throughout the Midwest about how to save substantial amounts of energy and money in homes and offices, MEEA helps secure funding, formulate ideas and implement strategic energy efficiency programs throughout the region. Each year partners and members approach MEEA with a program idea, program dollars and/or energy efficiency goals. MEEA steps in and makes it happen across the region. We help create and implement programs that will save energy and resources throughout the Midwest. We are the "go to" source to get it done, and know how to achieve measurable results in both energy and dollar savings.
