Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance Wins Governor’s Sustainability Award
MEEA Honored for its Involvement in Home Performance Program Aimed at Helping Illinois Homeowners
CHICAGO – The Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) today was named a winner of the Illinois Governor's Sustainability Award. The award is presented by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center to organizations that demonstrate a commitment to Illinois’ economy, society and environment through outstanding and innovative sustainability practices.
“We are honored to receive an award that recognizes the positive contributions of the Illinois Home Performance (IHP) with ENERGY STAR® program. MEEA delivers IHP to homeowners through Illinois Energy Now, a program of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO),” said Will Baker, Interim Program Director. “This award celebrates MEEA and DCEO’s work to improve the comfort, safety, durability, value and energy efficiency of Illinois homes.”
In 2013, MEEA issued Certificates of Completion to 1,548 Illinois homeowners who achieved at least 15 percent annual energy savings through a whole-home energy upgrade. These homeowners cumulatively saved approximately $580,500 in energy costs in 2013, and conserved the amount of energy equivalent to the annual energy needs of 414 Illinois homes.
Certificates of Completion are designed to help the homeowner communicate the value of their investment during home sale; MRED, a northern Illinois Multiple Listing Service (MLS), recognizes IHP Certificates. In addition to homeowner outreach and building science training for contractors, MEEA also offers ongoing training and support to real estate professionals around the state.
MEEA received the award during a lunch-time ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
