Advocate for Effective Policy
In order to affect positive change across state lines and throughout the Midwest, MEEA was the first to create a regionally coordinated, policy-based approach to advancing energy efficiency. The organization goes beyond facilitating programs and working with a network of collaborative partners-we also work with government, policymakers and membership to:
- Raise awareness of the importance and benefits associated with energy efficiency policies, funding and programs
- Increase ratepayer investments for energy efficiency programs across the Midwest states
- Increase adoption, implementation and enforcement of commercial and residential energy codes and appliance standards in the Midwest
To realize these goals, MEEA hosts the annual Midwest Energy Solutions Conference in Chicago each fall, makes presentations at other conferences throughout the year and provides comments and testimony when invited or through public comment periods. MEEA also publishes whitepapers and fact sheets to support our policy initiatives, and works with a broad spectrum of organizations to disseminate best practices and lessons learned from energy efficiency activities throughout the country.
Energy efficiency is the single most important issue of our time. It affects our natural gas and electricity prices and supplies, our transportation sector, the safety, security and reliability of our electric grid, the environment, and the economy-it affects everyone and everything. MEEA is the leading source and champion for advancing sound energy efficiency policies. Learn more about the Midwest Natural Gas Initiative, which engages policymakers from each Midwest state to work together to mitigate high and volatile natural gas prices through energy efficiency.

Energy Codes & Appliance Standards
Energy codes and appliance standards are a simple and cost-effective way to reduce energy consumption, reduce energy bills, make housing more affordable, reduce air pollution and improve air quality.
Other Drivers of Energy Efficiency
Energy is the single most important issue of our time and efficiency has never been more important. There are many factors driving energy efficiency today, including Energy Prices, Economic Impacts, Reliability and more.
